WOW. U2 was beyond spectacular! Here's what I posted on the Keane message boards (thought I'd put it here so I can re-read it at my own leisure):

"The show was pretty much more than I could have ever expected - the lights, the music, the energy - it truly felt like the Staples Center had lifted off the ground. All the faves were performed - One, With or Without You (whilst one lucky fan that was brought up onto the circle clutched onto Bono for dear life), Sunday Bloody Sunday, etc...

But the most spectacular part of the evening was when they came out for their second encore. Each member of the band had changed into a shirt that had the words 'The Larry Mullen Band' printed boldly on the front. Then Bono led the entire stadium into singing 'Happy Birthday' to Larry, followed with 'Hip Hip - Hooray! Hip Hip - Hooray!'

After another song, Bono walked out to the edge of the circle (those of you who have gone know what I mean), and said, where are those girls with the signs... He finds them and then read their signs, "Drummer, singer, guitarist, bassist. Ok then, let's go." And sure enough, the four girls climbed onto the circle, and Bono led them back to center stage. He said, you girls better not be shitting me about being in a band. Then he asked one of the girls what they played, she said the guitar, and he said, ok then to the Edge. And the other three took their places on stage, each getting situated with U2's instruments. Then they went ahead and played a song! It was beyond incredible, watching the girls jam, and seeing Bono come out and sing with the lead girl. I don't know what song it was, but Bono did know the words to the song... I was sooo happy for them ~ can you imagine having the amazing chance to sing up on stage with U2 in front of 18,000 people?

Anyhoo, during U2's very last song, Bono filed out first, waving to the crowd while the other three members continued playing. Then Adam left. Then the Edge left. Larry continued playing, while the audience cheered. Once he finished, he went up to the mic and said (something like this, not verbatim): I'm Larry, it's my birthday. 'Thanks for coming out to see the Larry Mullen band.

Fin."

I'll post up pictures later, after I get them from Lil. *Thanks to Dan for the ticket, and Lil for thinking of me!*

I've been thinking a lot about my summer o'concerts. More like, year 2005 - concertmania for Yihaw, and again, for my own reference, I'm going to list them out here. I don't think any year could top this one, in terms of concert attendance, so here goes (it all began with that infamous Coachella day....):

April 30: Coachella. Kris sees Keane for the very first time.
May 5: Cinco de Becko. KROQ Breakfast with Beck at El Cid.
May 5: Last Call with Carson Daly. Kris waits 3 hours to see Keane perform SOWK and EC.
May 13: Erasure @ Avalon with Mars. Holy blue sparkly undies!
June 24: Hollywood Bowl Opening Gala. Joshua Bell, et al.
July 9: Hollywood Bowl w/June - Sound of Music Sing-a-long!
July 22: Beck conert at Universal Amphitheatre. We head backstage for drinks, and talk with Le Tigre and famed robotic dancer man, Ryan Faulker. No sign of Beck.
July 29-30: Street Scene San Diego. LaLas attack San Diego. We see Killers, Death Cab, Dashboard, BEP, Snoop, The Flaming Lips (my fave that weekend!)
August 19: Coldplay at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Northern Cali. Cannot see crap, but I do get my video camera in :)
August 30: Sarah Chang @ Hollywood Bowl with Lil and Dan
September 14: Tom Freund @ the Mint. Chang mistakes a post in the Ben Harper forum and actually thinks Ben will be there. He was duped!! But Tom Freund was good nonetheless.
September 16: Maximo Park and the Bravery @ the Galaxy in Santa Ana. Sis and I have a great time - a really great show.
September 17: KROQ's Inland Invasion. Bravery, Arcade Fire, Weezer, Beck, OASIS, just to name a few. Hang out with Jess, all for a measely $20. Total steal.
September 19: Keane at USC. The day Kris hugged Tom.
September 29: Keane at House of Blues San Diego. Kris catches Rich's towel. Also gets Tim to sign her picture.
September 30: Keane at Greek in Los Angeles. Kris gets backstage with El, meets band!, takes pictures, etc.
October 1: Keane at Hollywood/Highland. Short performance, meets band again with Tiff. Tim remembers Kris's name!
October 5: Sigur Ros at Hollywood Bowl with Mattie.
October 6: Killers at Long Beach Arena. Get in fight with Killers mod on their forum. Kris vows to never return.
October 22: Hot Hot Heat, Weezer, and Foo Fighters at Long Beach Arena. Lees takes Kris for free to the show. We see Rivers very close while he sings 'Island in the Sun'
October 30: We Are Scientists. Band recommended by keane boardie, Kris goes with Lees, and we get a cool CD at the end.
November 1: U2 baby!

And you know, I might have even missed a couple along the way.... but there you go... and 2005 is not over yet baby! :D
