I was inspired by another friend's post to put some more pictures that actually show the city of Sydney, so here goes.
On one of the days, I walked down from the apartment down to the ferry point, to take the Cremorne ferry over to the Circular Quay. There are ferries that take you to/from Circular Quay to just about every point around Sydney that is near the water (e.g. Taronga Zoo).
The walk was beautiful, as it took me through a reserve, that was very jungle-y.
One of the many bridges I had to cross:
Now I'm not usually one to get lost, but Michelle failed to mention that I had to make sure that I went RIGHT on the paths. Mind you, it was scorching hot, and my toes were getting blisters from all the walking. I reached this point - which apparently turned out to be Mosman Bay. WRONG FREAKING BAY.
I finally reached the right wharf, after walking for about an hour. The ferries in Sydney all have moving docks.... ugh, just the thought of it makes me feel sick. I wasn't able to stand on those things because I would instantly get motion sickness. But once I was on the ferry, I was fine. Here are some pictures of the HarboUr Bridge and the famed Sydney Opera House. :)
The Saturday before I left, a group of us went kayaking from Rose Bay over to Watsons Bay. That probably means nothing to you, just as it meant nothing to me that morning. After kayaking ALL day, dodging speedboats/ ferries/ water taxis/ sailboats/ Dick Cheney's entourage, the kayaking lady said that we had probably kayaked 12 kilometers. o.O
It was really tough, but in the end it was a fun day of kayaking. No surprise to me that I was completely out of shape, but it was a great experience being out there in the water. And to top it off, we had a great lunch at Watsons. Nice way to end the trip - and brings my Sydney posts to an end.
On a more current note, work has been really stressful lately, as we've lost a team member in the last month.
Keane in town May 11 - hope some of you get to see them this time. :)
